Welcome to the Main directory. Click on the links in the tables below to go to my different websites. I have devoted the each of the sections to analyzing specific things about the series, such as characters, or religious symbols. Also, if you want more information about Neon Genesis Evangelion, you can follow the links I have at the bottom of this page to see some other pages that people have made when analyzing this series.

This is one of my first websites, and I have yet to make this page available through search engines. I take no ownership of the images used on this page. Evangelion, its characters, and the images used on these pages are property of Gainax, and are the creation of Director Hideaki Anno.

Here are the contents you will find in each section. Click on the Picture to enter:

Characters:This section explores the minds of the main characters of the television, including their emotional problems and philosophy of life. Analysis will include Shinji's condition, Asuka's tragic past, Rei's questions about existence, and The symbolism of the 17th Angel, Tabris.

Third Impact: What is Third Impact? What is Human Instrumentality and how does it relate to Third Impact? Why is it important to the series? What religious or philosophical implications does it provide? What exactly is it that Third Impact can do? These questions are answered to the best of my abilities in this section.

Religious Symbols: What is the significance of the 17 Angels, the Dead Sea Scolls, Adam and Eve, Lilith, the Jewish Tree of Life, and the Origin of Human Kind? Even though these things only show up in the series occasionally, they are a big part of the story, and it is important to understand some things about them. This section also covers the various visual symbols seen in the series, such as the SEELE coat of Arms, the Cross, and the Symbol of NERV.

The Angels: Seperate from the Religious Symbols section. This section gives the names of the 17 angels, as well as information about these angels from various texts. Sachiel, Shamshel, Ramiel, Zeruel, Arael, Tabris, Man. They're all here.

Psychology: A short section on the Psychology addressed by the three main characters as well as themes prevalent in the final two episodes. This includes analysis of Rei Ayanami's I am I speech, Shinji's analysis of himself from within Eva-01, and various psychological terms such as "Hedgehogs dilemma."

Philosophy: Through all of its intense action and science fiction background, Evangelion turns out to be a story about people, and how these people live/view thier lives. Ultimatly it serves as a way of communicating Anno's own philosophy. This section, composed of my main essay, addresses the main themes of Evangelion, and uses them in an attempt to figure out the Director's true philosophy on life is.

The Controversy:What makes Evangelion so special. What makes it so controversial. Can it be that the steps Evangelion has taken has changed the way the world looks, or should look, at animation. Why is it that Japanese Animation can spawn such thought provoking shows as Evangelion, Serial Experiments Lain, and realistic films like Grave of the Fireflies, while American cartoons remain childish; etched in comedy. This section, also an essay, is devoted to taking a stand on this issue, and explaining what makes Evangelion so special and controversial, and how American animation could learn a few things from the Japanese.
